Architecture!

My family and I lived in Japan for a few years while I was in high school. The architecture there was amazing! The utility of all of the ancient temples and homes was amazingly advanced, but were very elegant and intricate. Similarly, ancient Greeks sought to make beautiful edifices that reflected their refined culture. Isn't cool how you can look at the two different buildings above and tell me almost exactly from what area of the world and culture they come from? Architecture historically was such a defining characteristic of a civilizations culture.

Were the Greeks big sports fan?

After BYU football’s big win over Texas this last Saturday all that I have been able to think about is football. So what about the Greeks? Did they have sports? If so what was their purpose in Greek society?

  Ancient Greece’s contribution to the world of sports can be summed up in two words: The Olympics. The games were held in honor of Zeus and were the origin of the games as we know them today. Geeks were passionate about the games as they evolved. I guess you could say I’m passionate as well, what do you think?

My Big Fat Greek Blogpost

I’ve always loved the idea of Greece - the art, architecture, food, and Olympics.  Wouldn’t it have been wonderful to live in ancient Greece?  Looking at these aspects it seems like a dream, but researching about ancient Greece I realized quickly the nightmare my life would be.

In ancient Greece, women "took their social and legal status from their husband…” (ancientgreece.com).  My boyfriend is Brazilian and studying here, so according to ancient Greek society he would be considered a metic or migrant that could never acquire the full right of a citizen and I’d be in the same situation!  Yikes!!
