Who has time for down-time?
Many things clamor constantly for our time, such as schoolwork, church
callings, earning money, etc. (Division).
Forget sleep (Antecedent/Consequence).
Often we get so caught up in the business of life that we are forced to
let some things go. Quite often this
negatively impacts us (Cause/Effect). Some
even say that sleep deprivation and stress result in weight gain (Rumor). Do
not the scriptures say that “it is not requisite that a man should run faster
than he has strength”? (Authorities). It
is my hope that people can slow down to catch their breath (Similarity/
Difference). As the saying goes, “A stitch in time saves
nine.” (Maxims/Proverbs). Down-time
in a sense is not necessarily time devoted to a brain dump (Contradiction). Rather, it is time given to reflection and
recuperation (Definition). Take it from me, a little down-time improves
not only the quality of my work, but also the attitude with which I attend my
duties (Witness).
Cool! You could also mention how sleeps helps people connect with the divine [Supernatural] in conjunction with your definition sentence. I was wondering, also--do the scriptures count as Authority, or Documents?
ReplyDeleteI think that scriptures can count as authority, documents, or supernatural depending on the kairos and intent of the argument. Good job with the post Kelly! I was impressed with the brevity of it; I had a hard time keeping mine a reasonable length.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Courtney, I find your post pleasantly concise. As for an additional topic, perhaps some subject/adjuncts. Describing what is essential in down-time, and what is merely there as a consequence. For not all rest is equal.
