Down Time

Who has time for down-time?  Many things clamor constantly for our time, such as schoolwork, church callings, earning money, etc. (Division).  Forget sleep (Antecedent/Consequence).  Often we get so caught up in the business of life that we are forced to let some things go.  Quite often this negatively impacts us (Cause/Effect).  Some even say that sleep deprivation and stress result in weight gain (Rumor). Do not the scriptures say that “it is not requisite that a man should run faster than he has strength”? (Authorities).  It is my hope that people can slow down to catch their breath (Similarity/ Difference).   As the saying goes, “A stitch in time saves nine.”  (Maxims/Proverbs).   Down-time in a sense is not necessarily time devoted to a brain dump (Contradiction).  Rather, it is time given to reflection and recuperation (Definition).   Take it from me, a little down-time improves not only the quality of my work, but also the attitude with which I attend my duties (Witness).

  1. Cool! You could also mention how sleeps helps people connect with the divine [Supernatural] in conjunction with your definition sentence. I was wondering, also--do the scriptures count as Authority, or Documents?

  2. I think that scriptures can count as authority, documents, or supernatural depending on the kairos and intent of the argument. Good job with the post Kelly! I was impressed with the brevity of it; I had a hard time keeping mine a reasonable length.

  3. I agree with Courtney, I find your post pleasantly concise. As for an additional topic, perhaps some subject/adjuncts. Describing what is essential in down-time, and what is merely there as a consequence. For not all rest is equal.
