Just like Spencer, I too am a huge BYU sports fan, especially when it comes to basketball! When the Olympics first began, they were a way that the city states showed political dominance over the other competing city states. Citizens of the city states took great pride in their athletes, and would often travel to Olympia to cheer them on.

I, just like these ancient supporters, travel (walk) to the northern part of our campus to cheer on our athletes while they compete against other athletes from different city states, or colleges.
Yeah, Go Basketball! It is true that our team spirit would almost rival that of the Greeks, and they practically invented sport competitions. After I read your post I was curious about what type of sports were in the original Olympic Games and I found this website: http://www.perseus.tufts.edu/Olympics/sports.html. It explains how each of the ancient sports were played. Anyone who likes track and field or boxing might want to check it out for ideas about their blog posts!
ReplyDeleteI really love your school spirit and the fact that you are willing to camp out overnight to show your support! It is interesting to think that all of this competitive nature can be rooted back to the ancient greeks and the beginning of the Olympics. I also really found the website that Courtney posted very insightful.
