We need to change the way we interact with others outside of groups that we identify with, and even change fundamentally what it means to belong to a group. Social tribalism is becoming a problem in society.
I have to hang my head in shame - I'm a few seconds over.... Whoops.
Also - I really wanted to work a clip from this into the video, but it didn't make it. Enjoy Disney's take on the problem of tribalism.
As great as it sounds, I don't think getting rid of "social tribalism" as you call it is a good idea. I don't think that allowing people to be a part of groups as far as their morals allow is a good idea. I think this is what makes us clash and have more problems. If you're only my friend until a certain point, are we really friends?
But are we really friends if my being your friend is dependent on my moral views matching your own?
The idea isn't that inclusion in the group is only as far as we feel comfortable going, but that the inclusion in the group doesn't need to define us in every aspect. I can be your friend even though our values on certain subjects may be different - and I don't have to support you in things that I feel morally or ideologically opposed to.
