Humanity in Human Interactions

While preparing for our last post, I had two interactions online: one on a traditionally "social" medium--Twitter, and the other on a more anonymous site--Reddit.
There was a distinct difference in the quality of ideas exchanged, and I believe much of this had to do with the responsibility that comes with attaching your name to posts.

Stay cute! (Like this thumbnail)

  1. I can definitely relate to this as I know that I act differently when I know whatever I post onto the internet cannot be traced back to me, rather than social media like Facebook where everyone knows who I am. I think there may be rare moments where being anonymous can be beneficial, but for the most part, I feel that it allows us to put on a facade that reduces sensitivity and understanding.

  2. Two thumbs up! Anonymity oftentimes is taken as an excuse to not take responsibility for what we say online. Like Sean, it's difficult for me to come up with a time when anonymity is positive other than maybe voting. I agree, anonymity especially in forums should be discouraged.
