Seniority rules . . . should change

I've been looking at seniority in school districts. In my previous posts, I discuss in more detail the issues surrounding this dogma. I tried to summarize the main points in this video.

  1. HA HA!!! The thesaurus is my favorite dinosaur.
Good job of clearly explaining the origins of the current way of thinking and seeing this topic and explaining the new frame of reference.

  2. Though I think keeping a teacher on based on seniority alone and that hiring on merit is important, it does provide tremendous security to the system and can help ward against bias. How do you decide merit? How do you decide how well a teacher teaches? Students who want to fail will ultimately choose to fail and the teach may not be able to help it. This supports more of a policy change but I think we need to also look at changing the mindset of our views on teacher themselves and the value they hold.
